Ling He teaches academic writing in English to domestic and international students in the First-Year Writing Program in the Department of English at UIC. She holds her PhD in Teaching English as a Second Language with a specialization in second language writing from the University of British Columbia in Canada.
Ling He’s research revolves around issues in applied linguistics with a TESOL focus. She explores topics in teaching and assessing writing in English as a second/foreign language. Her research in assessment addresses validity issues of standardized English tests for assessing English writing competence of language minority students in universities. She has conducted qualitative and quantitative studies in that direction. Her work is published in peer-reviewed journals Language Testing, Assessing Writing, TESOL Connections , and Critical Inquiry in Language Studies as well as in English as a foreign language contexts.
