Prof. Rachel Havrelock’s Freshwater Lab Interns Thrive Despite Pandemic

UIC English Professor Rachel Havrelock's Freshwater Lab is doing something new this summer--sending students out to Chicagoland water organizations to serve as interns. In spite of the restrictions imposed by COVID-19, the interns are excelling in their posts at such institutions as Food and Water Watch, the Center for Neighborhood Technology, and the Environmental Law and Policy Center.

Deana Kittaneh (junior, Public Policy), Nathaniel Wright (BA'20, English and Psychology), and Abigail Kremer (senior, English) are just three of the 18 students who are continuing their internships from the spring semester into the summer.

According to Prof. Havrelock: “I always joke that eventually, freshwater alums are going to run water in this town.”
