The Department of African American Studies is pleased to announce 2015's Grace Holt Award winner, Neri Sandoval. He is a PhD Candidate specializing in Latin American literature. While his research, specifically his forthcoming article "The New Williams," is already poised to intervene both theoretically and historically in the field of Latin American studies, he carries forward his research on the intertwined relation of race and class to service to the community. Since coming to the University of Illinois at Chicago, Neri has taught for TRIO's Upward Bound Program to help prepare low-income student of color to succeed in college.
