Luis Alberto Urrea Awarded Guggenheim Fellowship
Another accolade for the LAS Distinguished Professor and best-selling author
UIC English Professor Luis Alberto Urrea has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship for the 2019-2020 academic year.
The award committee considered over 3,000 applicants, and ultimately selected 168 winners. Urrea was one of seven chosen for the fiction category.
The Guggenheim recognizes achievement as well as "exceptional promise." Urrea plans to use the award to work on a project about his mother's experiences in WWII. Urrea's latest book, The House of Fallen Angels, was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, and explored his relationship to his father and Mexican family. You can read the full story on UIC Today.
Congratulations to Professor Urrea!
