MaryAnne Lyons’ teaching and research areas center on Native American studies and film. In addition to fiction and poetry, her emphases in Native American literature are life writing, performance, and the literature of protest. Her main focuses in film, in no particular order, are: early film, indigenous film, American independent film, New German and New Hollywood cinemas, and documentary. In addition to courses in Native American Literatures, Film Studies, and First Year Writing, MaryAnne Lyons has taught other general education courses in literature as well as conducting an independent study in screenwriting. She also has a background in creative writing, working primarily in poetry and memoir.
