About

I have taught both English 160 and 161 at UIC for fourteen years, emphasizing reading skills and approaching writing in genres from a structuralist perspective. I teach English 115, Understanding the Bible as Literature, focusing on the close relationship between the Biblical text and sacred violence. I earned an M.A. in English Literature from Dominican University, specializing in seventeenth century religious poetry, with additional coursework at the University of London. I pursued doctoral studies in Biblical studies (primarily the Tanakh  or Old Testament) and religion and literature at the University of Chicago. In the past, I have published poetry in the book The Thing About Second Chances Is ... and in various journals. Extracurricular activities in the business world include social media marketing and a weekly column on LGBTQ and popular culture issues. I am the unofficial department opera aficionado, sharing regular performances on the UIC English twitter page.
