Pugh also published criticism during 2017 as well. “'Velvety Velour' and Other Sonnet Textures in the Work of Gwendolyn Brooks” appeared in Poetry in June 2017, and then in the anthology The Whiskey of our Discontent: Gwendolyn Brooks as Conscience and Change Agent (Haymarket Books, 2017). “Marianne Moore’s Finish” was published in the December issue of Twentieth Century Literature.
