orientation for new students and new teaching assistants

Department Orientations

The English Department and the First-Year Writing Program (FYWP) each host an orientation for new students and new TAs, respectively.

The FYWP's "Comp Camp" prepares students to teach composition at UIC.

The Department orientation introduces students to faculty and staff, including the Head of the Department, Associate HeadDirector of Graduate Studies and Graduate Studies Program Coordinator, as well as providing important information and resources.

Graduate College Orientations

The Graduate College holds two main orientation sessions the week before the Fall semester begins. One is meant for new Teaching Assistants (all PhD students on the standard TAship) and the other is meant for new students in general (all MA students and any PhD students who are not TAs).
