About

Mike Newirth graduated with honors from the University of Chicago and received graduate degrees from the University of Florida and the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars. His fiction was recognized with the Henfield-Transatlantic Review Award and a Pushcart Prize. Stories, essays and reviews have appeared in publications including The Baffler, Open City, Other Voices, Another Chicago Magazine (ACM), In These Times, Chicago Reader, Publishers Weekly, Kirkus Reviews, Rain Taxi, Soundings East, Closer, and the East Hampton Star, and the anthologies Boob Jubilee: The Cultural Politics of the New Economy, A Fine Excess: Literature at Play, and Personals: Dreams and Nightmares From the Lives of 20 Young Writers. He was Fiction Editor of Bridge Magazine and a guest editor for the journal Fifth Wednesday. He has taught writing and composition at the University of Illinois - Chicago for over ten years, and also taught at the School of Continuing Studies at Northwestern University.
